No Competition

In today’s society, people are taught that to be the best, one must compete. People compete in sports, compete for job promotions, even compete for significant others. My first real introduction to “competition” was in the 6th grade. Although there were hints of it beforehand as far as who received the top grade in class or who won a game in gym class, it wasn’t until I entered my elementary band class that the pressure to be number one truly began.

Hours of practicing and chair tests to see who could outdo the next musician ensued and being “the best” consumed my life from age twelve until I graduated from college at twenty-three. I competed against the top flutists in the state and I excelled. I ended up receiving a music scholarship to assist in my college education and as a musician, thrived in that environment. By the time I was a senior in college, I was the principal flutist in our university wind symphony and maintaining that position consumed me. It wasn’t until a few years after I graduated from college that I found I had it all wrong. I wasn’t meant to “compete” with my fellow musicians, I was supposed to do my personal best and let my love of music and performing flow, without the thought of who I was competing with and if I could play better than the next person. I always approached competition as “friendly competition” however competition, no matter friendly or hostile, isn’t the greatest way to obtain your goals.

I was introduced to the plus size community first as a consumer and then evolved to a webmaster/photographer. I took the time to learn how the business works, how to build websites, how to promote, how to take pictures and how to shoot video, how to edit said photos and video and most importantly how to listen and put ideas into continuous action. In the beginning of my career in this industry, the ingrained philosophy of competition raised its ugly head and I approached it all wrong; maybe not by society’s standards but to do things in a purely creative and innovative way, it was incorrect. Many business owners approach promotion and the output of goods or services through competitive ways of thinking and one should consider approaching it in a different way.

As a photographer or videographer, try closing your eyes and picture a set that is completely in your own mind. Picture the colors, the theme, the setting, what type of content you want to shoot. Totally erase what you’ve seen before and create something new. What’s next? Get out a piece of paper and plan it out. Start a list of everything from the color of the background, to what the subject will wear and continue until every detail is written. Once you are done, you will have a masterpiece that is not modeled after someone else’s creation, but your very own. Here’s the kicker, even if someone has done something along the same lines (you wouldn’t even realize this during the creation process if you are truly creating), you have still created a matchless conception because it was done completely within your own imagination and will have many unique elements. Imagination is not just for children but should be something a person continues to develop until they draw their last breath.

I am fortunate that I learned the BBW porn business from someone who understands it inside and out and makes sure that everything released is perfect. One might ask, perfect by whose standards? Perfect by the creator’s standards because as an originator or producer of a product or service, it doesn’t matter what a person in the same industry is doing, it matters what the architect is passionate about and how they want to portray their thoughts by means of a product or service to the public. What people fail to realize is that it doesn’t matter what the next person is doing when one creates a product, the only thing that matters is that the person gives their best and uses their thoughts to create.

Think about a shirt. Every time you buy a new shirt, it was created by someone that took the idea of a shirt and made it their own. They have not invented the shirt; they used innovation to create a new style of their own. Another example; no one discredits Thomas Edison for creating the light bulb just because someone else developed a better one. They still give respect because he invented it. That doesn’t stop a person from making advancements in light bulb technology. The saying, “there is nothing new under the sun” is true to a point. Almost everything today is based off of a previous item.

I listen; I learn and continue to do so because knowledge combined with understanding mixed with accurate thinking and action is priceless. I continue to develop my mind and see things from a completely different perspective. There is NO competition! Period. Why? Because when you create a product or service that is derived from your mind, not thinking of how someone else is doing something, competition completely vanishes. It does not matter what the next person is doing; just do your thing and make sure it’s your personal best, that way, the only person you have to surpass, is you.

Too Hot to Handle

Whew, it's been a while since I blogged but it's not because I didn't want to, it's because I keep running out of time. Since Club BODacious Nights opened back in February, those of us working for BODacious, Inc have been going non-stop. Curious About What Happens on Set?
